Remembering Officer Christopher Wilson
The 26th Annual Light the Night Against Crime 5K is dedicated to San Diego Police Department Officer Christopher Wilson who was killed in the line of duty on October 27, 2010—the event will take place on the 2-year anniversary of Officer Wilson’s death.
Officer Wilson was a veteran police officer who was highly respected among colleagues and in the Southeast San Diego neighborhood where he worked. He was a loving father of two. Officer Wilson was shot and killed providing back up to other officers who were conducting a compliance check on an apartment. While searching the apartment, he was shot by a fugitive hiding behind a bedroom door. More than 4,000 people attended his funeral, including Governor Schwarzenegger. The Southeast San Diego community rallied to support Officer Wilson’s fellow officers and families. |
|
|
Dedicating the event to Officer Wilson gives the community another chance to honor Officer Wilson and other officers who risk their lives every day to keep our community safe. San Diego Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Craig Johnson and Detective Ali Perez who were shot in September will also be honored at the event. |

Volunteer
Volunteers are integral and crucial elements in making our events viable. Volunteer tasks include, among others: providing aid, water and food, keeping runners on course, cheering runners on and keeping spirits up. They are also there to have fun and enjoy the experience of the race from a different perspective. And most importantly, they make the race safer for everyone involved!
Volunteer opportunities are filled! Big thanks! |
